Instructions for Setting up Different Versions of Outlook
Outlook 365
- Open up Outlook 365
- Click File
- Click Add Account
- Type in your email address
- Click on Advanced Options
- Check the box beside "Let me set up my account manually"
- Click Connect
- On the next screen choose IMAP
- Outlook has recently changed something that has caused these possible extra steps: - Type in your email password
- Click Connect
- There might be a pop up asking you for your email and password again but it's trying to set up the wrong email server. If you see this pop up, click Cancel.
- On the next screen, click "Change Account Settings"
- The next screen should ask for these details:
Incoming Mail Server: email.iljmail.com
Port 993
Encryption Method SSL/TLS
Outgoing mail Server: smtp.iljmail.com
Port 587
Encryption Method: STARTTLS
It should look like this image when you are done:
- Click Next
- Type in your email address password
- Click Connect
- The next screen should say your account was successfully added.
- Uncheck the box that says to set up the Outlook Mobile on your phone (unless you need that)
- Click Done
It will take you back to your inbox and you can start using your new account!

If you are unable to send after setting it up, please take a look at your outgoing settings by clicking File, then the button called Account Settings, then it drops down to another menu, choose Server Settings. Click on Outgoing Mail and you should see a screen like this with these settings:
Outlook 2019
- In Outlook, click File.
- Under Account Information: Click Add Account.
- On the next screen, type in your full email address. Underneath the email address, click Advanced Options and check “Let me set up my account manually”
- Click Connect
- Select IMAP or POP account type. (IMAP is highly recommended – please note you can not swap from POP to IMAP later without needing to back up your already downloaded email messages.)
- Enter email.iljmail.com for incoming mail.
- Choose Port 993 for IMAP (or 995 for POP)
- POP: Check the box beside “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL/TLS)” (no other boxes should be checked)
- IMAP: Choose Encryption Method SSL/TLS
- For Outgoing Mail type smtp.iljmail.com and choose port 587
- Choose Encryption Method STARTTLS
- Leave the remaining boxes unchecked
- Click “Next”
- Type in your email address password.
- Click “Connect”
- Congratulations! Your account should be set up and ready to view on the left.
General Instructions for older Outlook setups
- In Outlook, click File.
- Click Add Account.
- Select the Manual Setup radio button and click Next.
- Select the Pop or IMAP radio button and click Next.
- Enter your name and email address.
- Select IMAP account type.
- Enter email.iljmail.com for incoming server field
- Enter smtp.iljmail.com for the outgoing server field
- Under Logon Information, enter your full email address for the User Name field.
- Enter your email password.
- Click More Settings.
- Click the Outgoing Server tab and check the box next to “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Server Port Numbers, select SSL encryption type for the incoming server.
- Make sure the incoming server port number is 993 for IMAP (or 995 for POP).
- Select STARTTLS encryption type for the outgoing server. If STARTTLS is not an option, select TLS encryption.
- Enter 587 for the outgoing server port number.
- Under Folders, enter INBOX in the Root folder path field.
- Click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
Backing up your Outlook Inbox:
Here's how to back up your inbox in Outlook 365 in case you ever need to:
- File
- Open & Export
- Import/Export
- Export to a file
- Next
- Outlook Data File (.pst)
- Next
- Select the Inbox and it should grab all folders nested under it as well
- Next
- Then choose a spot for it and click Finish.
